There is one university that offers an accredited MFT program designated by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE) in the state of Mississippi.

The School of Child and Family Sciences offers a Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy. 60 credit hours are needed to complete the program, with course examples being Gender and Culture in Therapeutic Relationships, Advanced Study of Marriage and Family Therapy Theories, and multiple levels of Assessment and Diagnosis in Family Therapy.

Specific requirements to get into the program include obtaining at least a 2.75 minimum GPA in an undergraduate degree and submitting GRE scores, three letters of recommendation, essay describing professional goals, and an updated resume.

LMFT Licensure in Mississippi

In order to gain state licensure for marriage and family therapy, applicants must complete at least a Master’s degree and it should be accredited by the COAMFTE.

MFT Licensure Requirements

Clinical practicum sessions should last for at least 12 consecutive months and contain 500 direct client hours and at least 200 supervised hours. Post-graduate experience should consist of at least 1,000 direct client hours and at least 200 supervised hours – 50 of those are direct, individual supervision by an approved LMFT specialist. National examination from the American Association of Marital and Family Therapy Regulation Boards (AMFTRB) will be accepted.
