What Is an Advanced Standing MSW Program?

An advanced standing Master of Social Work program is a shortened MSW pathway designed for students who already hold a qualifying Bachelor of Social Work degree. Because BSW graduates have completed foundational social work coursework and field education, they may be allowed to skip some of the introductory classes required in a traditional MSW program.

The shorter timeline is possible because eligible students have already completed foundational social work coursework and field education during their BSW program. Rather than repeating those requirements, they move into advanced practice courses and graduate-level fieldwork.
