Common Licensure Pitfalls in Kentucky

Pro Tip

Because LPCA practice begins only after Board approval of the supervision agreement, ensure the agreement is approved before any clinical practice intended to count toward supervised experience.

Track separately:

  • Total supervised experience hours (4,000), and
  • Direct counseling hours (minimum 1,600), and ensure supervision frequency meets the full-time or part-time supervision minimum that applies to your work schedule.

Warning

  • Practicing before the Board approves the supervision agreement may place supervised-hour validity at risk.
  • Failure to follow supervision agreement conditions, or continuing to practice after agreement termination (except limited temporary supervision provisions), may create compliance issues.
