West Virginia MFT Programs

Prospective students looking for proper education when considering a career in the MFT field should consider applying for a program that is designated by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE).

This is an established organization that reviews programs across the country for their detailed curriculum, experienced faculty members, and clinical practicum arrangements to give students the best education necessary to succeed in this field.

At the moment, getting an education from a COAMFTE-accredited program will need to happen outside of the state of West Virginia.

Marriage and Family Therapist Degrees in West Virginia

Even though there are no accredited programs in the state of West Virginia, there are a few paths to choose from.

Neighboring states like Pennsylvania and Ohio include institutions that host COAMFTE-accredited programs. Master's degrees are available at the University of Akron, Drexel University, and LaSalle University.

Those that are unable to make the trek to one of these campus programs may also consider an online program. There are only a handful of programs to choose from, and some require an on-campus residency, which means students will need to meet faculty and other students on-campus for an introduction into the program. Students should also determine if they have the technology necessary to complete the program, such as a modern computer with a Windows or Mac operating system and access to high-speed internet.
