New Hampshire MFT Programs

There are a few institutions in the state of New Hampshire that offer MFT programs that have been designated by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE).

Students can be assured that the curriculum has gone through rigorous review by an established association and that they will be fully prepared to enter a career where they will observe and analyze treatment procedures for clients that are struggling with relationships for a variety of reasons.

University of New Hampshire Human Development and Family Studies Program

At the College of Health and Human Services at the Durham campus, students can pursue a Master of Science in Human Development and Family Studies with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy.

Students will learn how to treat various kinds of issues such as communication disconnect, substance abuse, and addiction, and will do so while being aware of the diversity and cultural sensitivity of their clients.

MFT Courses

Examples of courses taken in the curriculum include Child Development in Context, Critical Problems in Family Life, and Clinical Interventions in Couples Therapy. Admission into the program only takes place in the fall with the application deadline on January 15th. All students have been able to pass the national exam after completing this degree.

COAMFTE-Accredited Programs in New Hampshire

Antioch University New England

Students have the ability to pursue the Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy at Antioch University and complete the 61-credit hour program in three years with full-time enrollment.

MFT Courses

There is both a clinical practicum and year-long internship that will result in 500 clinical hours of experience and an additional 100 hours of experience. Elective options in the third year allow for students to choose an area of concentration, such as Addictions Counseling, Counseling in Trauma, and Trans Affirmative Therapy.

LMFT Licensure in New Hampshire

In order to hold licensure in marriage and family therapy in the state of New Hampshire, students must have completed a Master’s degree with at least two years of coursework.

In addition, there should be 300 direct client hours that were completed within the program. For supervised practice, 3,000 total hours are needed and can be completed in one to two years. One-third of these hours must be direct client contact hours, and 200 hours should be supervised sessions.
